I have this sharp stabbing pain in my heel. The strange thing is that the pain is worse just after I wake up in the morning and later in the day it is more of a dull ache.
You are describing plantar fascitis. This is a common ailment resulting from the inflammation of the ligament that helps to hold the arch of the foot up. This is usually caused by a repetitive foot strain, often from flattening of the arches, abnormal alignment of the foot (pronation), or excessive weight gain. Mild cases can be treated with ice, light stretching exercises, anti-inflammatories, over-the-counter arch supports and rest.
