What is involved in eyelid cosmetic surgery?

Most people who decide to have eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty, have puffy, droopy or baggy eyelids. As you age, the eyelid skin stretches, the muscles weaken and fat accumulates around the eyes. These are commonly known as “bags.” During blepharoplasty, the skin is separated from underlying fatty tissue and muscle. Excess fat is removed, and often sagging skin and muscle also are trimmed. Typically, the incisions are made in the creases of the upper eyelids and just below the lashes in the lower lids. Scars from the incisions may remain slightly pink for a few weeks, but eventually they fade to a thin, nearly invisible line.
