lipstick and time

lipstick

I have extreme difficulty getting lipstick to stay on for any length of time. I am lucky if it lasts an hour. What do you recommend?

As a fellow makeup enthusiast trying to get her own lipstick to stay on, I can definitely empathize. Here are a few tricks you can try:
Try one of the many long-wearing, transfer-resistant lipsticks
This may seem obvious, but not all lipsticks in this category are the same - some are distinctly better. Just because you try one brand and dislike it does not mean you will have the same experience with every brand. A few of my favorites are BeautiControl Color Freeze, Avon Perfect Wear Double Performance, Revlon MoistureStay, Lip Ink, and Clinique Superlast. I’ve found that these brands are not as dry, crumbly, or as apt to wear off as some.
Use foundation, concealer, and/or powder as a base
As you are putting on your face makeup, apply a little foundation or concealer to your lips. Just a small dab blended on your lips and lipline creates a smooth, even surface for the lipstick to grab onto. Let it set completely before applying your lipstick, then blot gently with a tissue and apply the lipstick again. Layering the color over the base will also help it stay put.
Use a lipliner
I’m not just talking about lining your lips, but using the lipliner to fill in your lips to create a base for the lipstick. This is also a great way to create new colors with lipsticks and liners you already have. If you never wear that pink lipstick you bought last spring, try layering it with a brown liner for a new look.
Apply your lipstick with a lipbrush
Try “painting” the lipstick on with a lipbrush rather than applying directly from the tube. The application will be smoother, will last longer, and you also have more control so the overall look is cleaner and more polished.
