Cover Your Bases
Fed up with your foundation looking streaky, splotchy, or spackled on? Well, most likely you’re using too much, says Michele Burke, two-time Oscar-winning makeup artist and Max Factor’s leading lady in Hollywood. “The key to a flawless finish is to use only a small amount of product and put it only where you need it,” says Burke. Here, her tips for getting it right.1 First assess your problem areas — those spots with extra shine or uneven coloring. Most likely, your under-eye area, T-zone, cheek, and chin will need coverage. Start with the eye and place small dabs of creamy foundation in the inner corners, then work your way out to the very top of the cheekbone. Three small dots will most likely do the trick.
2 Next, gently “tap” the product into your skin, making small U-shaped motions with your fingertips. “This blends the foundation into the skin and maneuvers it for full coverage,” says Burke.
3 Move on to the next zone and use the same tapping technique. If need be, go back to rework an area. Not fully blending is a common foundation faux pas.
